UPDATE SERVICES FROM US CONSULAR GENERAL

22/08/2022
Let's take a look at some service updates from the US Consulate General with iCanfield to make my immigration journey more convenient.

1. Request a negative test result upon entry to the US

From January 26,  the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  requires all passengers two years of age and older entering the United States by air to present a negative COVID-19 test result. (testing to detect SARS-CoV-2 virus by a state competent agency or a state authorized unit), carried out within 72 hours before departure.

Airlines must confirm all passengers who test negative before boarding. Passengers who do not provide negative test results or have recovered treatment results will not be allowed to board. This requirement is separate from the visa application process. All Presidential Proclamations regarding COVID-19 travel restrictions remain in effect and continue to apply to persons intending to travel to the United States regardless of their test results or immunization status. how.

Visitors entering the U.S. National Interest Exception are also subject to all pre-departure testing requirements. For more information on exemptions from requesting test results please refer to this  site

2. Consulate General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City temporarily stops accepting applications for visa extension by mail

From Wednesday, July 28th, 2021, the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City will temporarily stop accepting applications for visa extension by mail. Visa services will be reopened as soon as possible, but no specific opening date has been announced at this time. Please check this website regularly for updates.

Under Directive 16, all post offices that receive and return passports/visa documents in some provinces will be closed until further notice. Return and pick up services at Post Offices in these areas are also temporarily suspended, please refer to the list of active Post Offices  here .

3. Expansion of visa extension program by mail

In consultation with the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary of State Blinken decided to temporarily extend the interview waiver program to applicants for renewal of nonimmigrant visas of the same category. Previously, only applicants whose nonimmigrant visas expired within 24 months were eligible for visa renewals by mail. Secretary of State Blinken has temporarily increased this period to 48 months. This policy is in effect until December 31, 2021.

This change allows consular officers to continue to process nonimmigrant visa applications and at the same time reduces the number of applicants who come for consular interviews, thereby reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection. -19 for other applicants and consular officers. Please see the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website for details on available services, eligibility, and instructions for applying for a visa extension by mail.

4. Extension of validity for visa application fee invoices

The US Embassy in Hanoi and the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City understand that many applicants have paid the visa application fee but have not yet been able to schedule an interview appointment. From April 1, 2021, we have reopened all visa processing services as usual. Visa application fee invoices valid until 20 March 2020 or later or paid between 20 March 2020 and 31 March 2021 will be extended until 30 September 2022.

Therefore, applicants who have paid the fee during the above period but are unable to schedule an appointment for a visa interview due to the temporary suspension of visa processing by the Embassy and Consulate General will be able to schedule an interview with that bill. Visa fee invoices paid from 1 April 2021 onwards will be valid for one year from the date of fee payment.
