After having a phone sim, you can download a number of utility applications to serve the needs of eating, shopping, moving, .. in Canada, some popular applications in Canada include:

  • Indeed: the application owns millions of job information from companies and businesses in Canada and allows you to search for the desired job by many criteria.

2. Get important immigration documents

Upon arrival, Canadian immigrants need to collect important documents including:

  • Work permit: If you immigrate to the provincial skilled stream or open a federal business, you will not normally receive a permanent resident but will receive a Work Permit - WP. WP will be issued upon arrival in Canada, you need to check to make sure the information matches, including personal information, work location, employer (if skilled immigration), duration, etc… WP is also valid as an “identity” card while living and working in Canada.

  • Permanent Resident Card (PR): For those who are granted permanent residency before coming to Canada, the Card will be issued after entry and sent to the registered address. This is the first and most important document to travel, open a bank account and complete other formalities with the government.

3. Finding house

Certainly when coming to Canada for long-term settlement, finding a place to live is a top priority. If you don't have relatives in Canada, you can find a temporary place to stay such as a hotel or dormitory before looking into renting a house to live permanently.

To find homes or information about local real estate you will live, you can visit a number of government websites or reputable organizations provide. One of the websites you can refer to is https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/services/index.asp , which provides quite a lot of useful information about buying/selling, renting or maintaining housing maintenance. Or you can search for rental information in local newspapers or real estate offices in your area.

Find housing

In addition, rental information can be easily found in local newspapers and real estate offices in the area. However, the best way is to ask an immigration service company for assistance, or rent a house with a Vietnamese owner.

After finding satisfactory information, you should visit the house before deciding to rent and must carefully read the contract and understand the conditions.

4. Health insurance

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can apply for public and private health insurance. Each province and territory has its own health insurance plan, so when you know which province you will live in, research what the province's plan covers.

Some provinces require new Canadian immigrants to wait up to three months before they can get government health insurance. You can purchase private insurance to cover your needs while you wait. You can also purchase private insurance for any services that your province's public plan does not cover. Some Canadian employers also offer extended health insurance to their employees.

5. Social insurance number

A Social Security Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number that you need to work in Canada. You also need it to get access to government programs and benefits. You can apply by mail or in person at a Service Canada office. You will need to provide original documents to prove your identity and status, such as a permanent resident card or confirmation of permanent residence.

6. Canadian Bank Account

Canadian immigrants should open a Canadian bank account as soon as possible. In Canada, you can open a personal bank account even if you don't have a job, don't have a permanent address, don't have money to deposit in the account, have a poor credit rating or are already bankrupt. You just need to go directly to the bank and present a valid ID. The teller at the bank will be able to guide you through the process, and many banks have services specifically for newcomers to Canada.

Moving to a new place can be confusing and intimidating, especially if you don't know anyone in your new community. Making new connections will not only help you feel at home, but will also grow your professional network and help you find a job in Canada.

There are Canadian immigration service organizations that connect newcomers with other immigrants or Canadians, which can be very helpful. You can also volunteer at local community centers, schools, or charities. There are many ways to get involved, try to find activities you can participate in to get to know people with similar interests as you.
