The Government of Canada has issued a new policy allowing dependent children of a temporary foreign worker's family to receive a Work Permit (WP).
Thus , eligible members to apply for Work Permit in the family will include: spouse, spouse and children.
This policy applies to principal applicants in the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), International Mobility Program (IMP), and work permit holders. Open Work Permit
The policy also covers family members of applicants who are applying for economic status; and family members listed on the prospective employer's promise of sponsorship sent to the main applicant.
Condition of dependent children to get WP:
Dependent children applying for WP may be granted an Open Work Permit if sponsored by a Canadian citizen/permanent resident.
Employers may need to apply for an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) from Employment and Social Development Canada to hire this dependent child worker.
When applying, workers should consider age requirements and other health checks that the job requires.
This new policy will take effect January 1, 2024 . Before this time, dependent children cannot apply.
In summary, this new policy will affect more than 200,000 foreign working families, increasing the cohesion and integration of members and contributing to the Canadian workforce.
