The province of Ontario Canada consists of three main geographical regions:
The Canadian Protected Area is thin in the northwest and central regions, covering more than half of Ontario's land area. Although the area does not primarily support agriculture, it is rich in minerals and is partly located in the Central American and Midwestern Shield forests, which cover lakes and rivers. Northern Ontario is divided into two subregions: Northwest Ontario and Northeastern Ontario.
The Hudson Bay lowlands in the extreme north and northeast are mostly swampy and sparse.
Southern Ontario is divided into four regions: Central Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Golden Horseshoe and Southwestern Ontario.
It has a subcontinental climate (Köppen Dfc) with long cold winters with frequent heavy and heavy snowfall. Summers are warmer and cooler because the cold waters of Hudson Bay reduce summer temperatures. These areas have higher annual rainfall in some cases over 100cm.
Has a moderately humid continental climate (Köppen Dfb). The region has hot summers with longer, colder winters, abundant snowfall, and annual rainfall similar to the rest of Southern Ontario.
It has a hot continental climate (Köppen Dfa). During the fall and winter months, stored heat from the lakes is released, regulating the climate near the lake shore. This allows some parts of southern Ontario to have milder winters. Parts of Southwest Ontario have a moderately humid continental climate, with hot, humid seasons and cold winters. Annual rainfall ranges from 750 - 1,000mm and is well distributed all year round.
The city of Toronto is the capital of Ontario, one of the ten provinces (plus three territories) that make up Canada.
