If the worker has a expired Canadian work permit, or want to change the current job, they should apply no later than 30 days to the expiration date. While the Department of Immigration processes the application, the worker is allowed to stay in Canada legally.
Changes related to an existing job such as salary, job category or a new job offer will also change the conditions of the work permit. But if the worker has an open work permit, they are allowed to extend it, as long as they are still eligible to work in Canada with the open work permit.
Apply for a new work permit 30 days before the expiration date.
In most cases, applicants will apply online to renew or change the conditions of their work permit. To apply online, an electronic copy of the documents is required, and the relevant fee will be payable to the government.

It is important to note that it is not allowed to renew a work permit after the expiry date of the passport.
After applying to renew their work permit in Canada, IRCC will submit the permit as proof that the worker is eligible to continue working under the same conditions as their original work permit. IRCC states that if the application is still being processed, they can continue to work after the expiration date in the letter as long as your employment conditions remain the same.
The worker is allowed to continue working under the same conditions as the original work permit while the new Work Permit is issued.
If the work permit expires before applying for a new one, the worker must stop working if he or she is in Canada. However, they can reinstate as workers if:
Register within 90 days of the license lapse
Meet the length of stay requirements (e.g. not working illegally)
Meet all the conditions listed on the expired license before it expires
