1. Permanent residency in Canada has increased sharply

According to the New Immigration Plan 2022-2024 announced last month, Canada is targeting nearly 432,000 new immigrants this year, which would be the highest in history. Last year, Canada welcomed more than 405,000 immigrants, mainly by transferring people living in the country to permanent residence. This marked a record year for Canada, and was the first time since 1913 that the country had more than 400,000 immigrants.

Summary of immigration numbers by category in January 2022:

• 65% of new Canadian permanent residents are in the work and investment category, higher than the 56% set out in the plan.
• 20% are in the sponsored family category, which is lower than the plan target of 24%.
• The refugee and protected person category accounts for the remaining 15%, lower than the planned target of 20%.

2. Popular Canadian immigration programs

The Canadian immigration program currently has two main categories chosen by the majority of Vietnamese people: employment and investment:

Start-up Visa (Startup Visa)

The Start-up Visa Program is aimed at attracting entrepreneurs who want to start a business in Canada with breakthrough, innovative business ideas that are capable of growing on a global scale. This is the only immigration program that grants permanent residence in Canada directly from Vietnam.

Program conditions:

• Own a business, a senior manager or an expert in any field or industry.

• Minimum level of English/French at CLB 5 (equivalent to L5, S5, R4, W5)

• Have an innovative business idea that receives a Letter of Support from a Canadian Government Designated Organization (Incubator, Angel Investor and Venture Capital).

• Deploying projects in the Canadian market

Saskatchewan Provincial Investment Stream

This is a Canadian immigration program with conditions to permanent residence, especially for Entrepreneurs, Individual Business Owners or Senior Managers in Vietnam who want to immigrate to Canada with an investment of from 200,000 CAD.

Program conditions:

• Have at least 3 years of experience as a manager or business owner in the last 10 years.

• Minimum net worth of 500,000 CAD

• Saskatoon and Regina: Minimum CAD 300,000 for acquisition/incorporation. The other area is 200,000 CAD.

• Recruiting 2 full-time employees (in case of setting up a new business in Saskatoon or Regina)

Canada has 4 popular immigration programs

Investment Area of ​​the Province of Prince Island

Investment program to get Canadian permanent residence in PEI province (also known as Prince Island) for Entrepreneurs, Individual Business Owners or Senior Managers in Vietnam who want to immigrate to Canada with an investment of 150,000CAD, this is also the lowest investment in Canadian programs.

Conditions include:

• Minimum English level CLB 4 (R3.5, W4, L4.5, S4)
• The applicant has experience in managing or owning a business :  Experience in managing at least 3 employees; or  Business owner with a minimum capital of 20%. 
• Total net worth of at least 600,000 CAD (Does not include donated assets)
• Invest a minimum of 150,000 CAD to acquire or establish a business in PEI .

Skill Worker (Skill Worker)

In addition to investment programs for Entrepreneurs, business owners, senior managers with experience in investment and business opening, Canada also opens a skilled immigration program. Accordingly, workers apply according to the Canadian occupation list based on qualifications and work experience.

This skilled Canadian permanent resident program includes two types:

• The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and wish to settle permanently in their province.
• The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) aims to supplement the workforce as well as improve population diversity issues in the four Atlantic provinces.
